Biography

Serine is a trial lawyer whose practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, employment disputes, and government investigations. She has considerable experience handling trials, arbitrations, and contested hearings, and has practiced in federal and state courts across the country - including most recently in California, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Serine is a true generalist. Her litigation experience includes commercial contract disputes, employment litigation, business torts, corporate control disputes, securities fraud cases, construction litigation, insurance litigation, earn-out disputes, trade secrets disputes, defamation, agency litigation, and more. She also has extensive experience handling highly sensitive government investigations, many of which have not been made public. Her breadth of experience with a variety of courts, industries, and practice areas has given her the perspective to respond effectively and pragmatically to her clients' various concerns.

Representative Employment Matters.

-Defended Yelp, Inc. in numerous lawsuits alleging discrimination and retaliation under Title VII.  Successfully prevailed against one former employee on summary judgment; other lawsuits are still ongoing.

-Defended tech startup in confidential AAA employment arbitration; case resolved favorably prior to arbitration hearing.

-Represented hedge fund in confidential JAMS employment arbitration; company prevailed.

-Represented hedge fund in dispute with former employee involving issues of California employment law; dispute successfully resolved pre-litigation.

-Represented private equity company in executive compensation litigation in federal court.

-Conducted internal investigation on behalf of tech company involving allegations of violations of California employment laws.

-Conducted numerous internal investigations on behalf of companies concerning allegations of employee misconduct.

-Regularly advise companies on a wide range of employment issues, including restrictive covenants, allegations of employee misconduct, and executive compensation.

Representative Commercial Disputes.

-Served as trial counsel to a Fortune 100 company in a month-long AAA arbitration involving allegations of fraud and breach of contract; the arbitral panel dismissed the fraud claim after the hearing and the remainder of the case settled confidentially.

-Served as trial counsel to a fifty-percent shareholder in a Delaware Chancery Court trial involving breach of fiduciary allegations against the board of directors.

-Served as trial counsel to a commercial real estate brokerage firm in a CPR arbitration arising out the breach of a brokerage agreement. Client was awarded compensatory damages and attorneys' fees and costs.

-Represented Verizon in a variety of contract, tort, and agency disputes.

-Represented Johnson Controls, Inc. in lawsuit against former employees alleging theft of trade secrets and breach of restrictive covenants.

-Represented commercial real estate brokerage firm in lawsuit against former employee and industry competitor.  Prevailed on summary judgment on liability; case settled shortly thereafter.

-Represented numerous companies in all manner of construction-defect disputes.

-Currently represent Auditor of the State of Mississippi in defamation lawsuit brought by Brett Favre.

-Currently represent group of former SPAC investors in securities fraud lawsuit against Ernst & Young.

Representative Government Investigations.

-Represent large multinational corporation in False Claims Act investigation and related qui tam lawsuit.

-Represented a Fortune 500 company who was the target of a False Claims Act investigation; the investigation was concluded with no adverse action against the client.

-Represented a senior DOJ official in connection with an Office of Special Counsel investigation into high-profile, politically charged matter.

-Represented a government official in connection with the Robert S. Mueller special counsel investigation.

-Represented a Cabinet member in connection with his testimony before multiple congressional committees regarding allegations of misconduct.

-While at Chadbourne & Parke LLP, represented Star Scientific, Inc. in connection with the federal grand jury investigation and prosecution of former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.

Serine has been with Aegis for nearly ten years. Before joining Aegis, she was an associate at Chadbourne & Parke LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright) and Baker Hostetler LLP.

Serine received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from the University of Texas and J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, serving as Notes Editor of the Texas Law Review.
